27 January
International Holocaust Remembrance Day
A name is much more than a name
"I should like someone to remember that there once lived a person named David Berger".
David in his last letter, Vilna 1941.
There were 6 million Jewish victims of the Holocaust which included 1.5 million children.
Each victim needs to be REMEMBERED by someone.
Today we ask you to join the IREMEMBER WALL and commemorate the names and stories of the Holocaust victims.
When you join the IRemember Wall, your name will be randomly linked to the name of a person who died in the Holocaust
and this way you will learn about that person's story and keep the memory alive.
A name is not just a name - a name is a face, a heart, thousands thoughts, a world of possibilities.
Let's not forget.

I was matched with Anna Klein nee Sor and guess what... She was a teacher.

Every year around 27 January, UNESCO pays tribute to the memory of the victims of the Holocaust and reaffirms its unwavering commitment to counter antisemitism, racism, and other forms of intolerance that may lead to group-targeted violence.
The date marks the anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi Concentration and Extermination Camp of Auschwitz-Birkenau by Soviet troops on 27 January 1945.
It was officially proclaimed in November 2005 by the United Nations General Assembly.

In Latvia our friends remember this officially on 4th July (on 4th July 1941 the Nazis burnt down the synagog in Riga). In Daugavpils there is a memorial of Jewish victims because in the city forest there was a genocide (around 70,000 victims).
