On Saturday 26 February we left for France and after an 8-hour journey we finally arrived in Bollène, a small town in Provence. Thanks to the Erasmus+ project we had the opportunity, during the past two school years, to get to know many other students from European schools that we would never have imagined meeting. This project has led us to create clubs in our schools where we continue to learn new things, also thanks to our foreign partners, such as the Debate Club, the Art Club, the Science Club, the Geocaching Club and the Language Club.
In Bollène we were hosted by the students of our partner school, and after a weekend with the family, we attended the same school for a week. There were five of us - Filippo, Gaia, Luana, Kamilla and Martina from classes 4B of the Bar and Restaurant Tending Course and 5A of the Hotel Reception Course.
Entering that school we were immediately surprised by the diversity: in that school students could come and go when they wanted, obviously showing the timetable and showing that they did not have lessons in those hours; they had subjects taught entirely in English. and a whole class was preparing to be certified in English; their language skills really surprised us. Coming from a Hospitality Institute, we found that obviously the subjects studied were completely different, and a great advantage of that school is that the students have the responsibility to choose the subjects for their future and in between lessons they have the opportunity to go and to read in the library, do their homework in the common rooms and even play table football.
We are very happy we had this opportunity, and we hope to do other mobilities in the future of course - every experience we make changes us for the good, and it opens our minds to the understanding of different customs and traditions.

In the beginning I was scared because I didn't know what it would be like both in the school and in my hosting family, luckily Martina and I ended up in a super nice family. The first few days I felt very embarrassed, then this embarrassment disappeared precisely because at home they treated us like family.
At Lycee Aubrac they stay at school until 6pm practically every day and it is really hard for the students but the fact they can spend the time when they have no lessons in common rooms is really helpful.
It was difficult to follow the lessons in French because I don't know the language very well, but in spite of the fact they were quite complicated I found them interesting.
Among us we communicated in English, French and also Italian since many of the French students study it; in the family I could speak Spanish, given the origins of the father and this was very useful in the beginning because I had a confusion of languages in my head and I was afraid to make mistakes in English.
One day we visited the kindergarten where our hosting mother works and it was really nice – there we were able to communicate very well with the children.
This experience was useful from a linguistic and also a human point of view because you discover cultures, traditions that you may have previously ignored, you try new foods and improve relationships. It is an experience that must be done absolutely – you should not be afraid of making mistakes or about anything, nobody will judge you or laugh at you – you have just to relax and enjoy the moment.
I will remember the pleasant dinners with the family, the days with the other French students around the city and all the situations of embarrassment in trying to understand each other. I will miss the people I met during the stay and certainly the family with all their kindness and sympathy, but above all their truly divine cuisine. I learned a lot of new words in English and Spanish and I will try to remember all of the French I was taught. Finally I can say I have re-discovered the true meaning of the word family.
